Meet the Team

Our team in Kenya

Lead Facilitator

Emily Achieng Omondi

I believe every child deserves the chance to develop their talents and access quality education, which is vital for ending poverty and strengthening communities. Since joining Fursa in 2019, I found a shared vision and felt empowered to become part of meaningful change.

I mentor children after school, support their academic and emotional needs, contribute to curriculum development, and connect families to essential services.I am passionate about nurturing children’s growth, encouraging their confidence, and ensuring they feel seen, valued, and supported.

To better serve the children, I completed counseling training, enabling me to provide emotional support and guidance. This service creates a safe space for children to express themselves and build resilience, complementing my mentorship work and ensuring holistic care.

Operations Manager

Hellen Bitieka Mukanzi

I joined Fursa Trust Kenya in 2025 to lead its operations and support organisational policy development, contributing to the organisation’s growth and the scale-up of its transformative work.I was drawn to Fursa because of my passion for creating sustainable impact at the grassroots level by empowering communities to drive lasting change. Fursa is successfully achieving this in the Deep Sea slums.

I bring extensive operations management experience across multiple impact sectors, specialising in streamlining processes and supporting organisations to build strong foundations and scale successfully.

It is inspiring to see how Fursa nurtures young people who then return to give back to their community. This cycle of growth and contribution is at the heart of sustainable change, and I am proud to be part of it.

Lead Facilitator

Irene Nangria Ngata

I joined Fursa in 2020 to support the delivery of the after-school programmes and provide academic support to children during after-school hours. Since then, I have been actively involved in mentoring the children, developing interactive and enriching learning experiences, and contributing to the structure of the curriculum.

My passion lies in supporting children who often face barriers to accessing consistent educational support. I find great fulfilment in creating a safe, nurturing environment where they feel recognised, supported, and valued. I particularly enjoy storytelling and reading aloud, as it captures their imagination and fosters a love for learning.

Fursa has given me the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children.I am proud to play a part in their growth and development, both academically and socially.

Volunteer

Kevin Odhiambo Onunga

I joined Fursa Trust in 2020 as a student and received excellent academic support and mentorship that helped me succeed in my exams. Beyond academics, Fursa also taught me important life skills such as leadership, discipline, and communication.
As a Fursa alumnus who grew up in Deep Sea informal settlement, I now volunteer while waiting to join university. I mentor children, share the knowledge I received and support with administrative tasks. Fursa taught me the importance of hard work and focus, and I want to help others realise their potential just as I did.
Volunteer

Joseph Wombua

I joined Fursa in 2024 and quickly connected with the after-school club’s friendly atmosphere and its commitment to supporting children. As a law student at Mount Kenya University, I volunteer in the evenings after my classes where I mentor students and support them in their studies, especially in numeracy for primary learners and sciences for those in high school.

Fursa has given me a platform to give back and grow as a mentor. I am passionate about seeing young people realise their potential, and I believe that through education and encouragement, every child can build a brighter future.

Mentor

Dominic Ngei

I joined Fursa in 2019 and provide a safe space for children to speak about personal issues. Through guidance, counselling and talks, I help open their minds to matters outside the classroom. I grew up in a slum and was fortunate to be part of a support programme similar to Fursa. It made me who I am today and so I wanted to help Fursa’s mission. One of my favourite parts is meeting different characters from all walks of life.

Programme Support Intern

Bradsley Atieno

I believe chance has the power to change the course of a life. For many children growing up in the slums, it is hope that gives them the strength to dream that, with the right opportunity, their future will unfold differently.

I joined FURSA in January 2026 as a Programme Support Intern, where I mentor the children, capture their lifetime memories through photography and stories, and help streamline the support they need within the programme. Every day, I work to help them believe in themselves and in a better tomorrow, not only through my words, but also as a living testimony, a role model, and a leader they can relate to.

FURSA has given me a platform to impact and change the life of a child, and in return, I witness the small, intentional steps we take together that are shaping not just a stronger community but also a greater continent.

Our team in the UK

Founder & Trustee

Ruhi Morbiwalla

I’ve been a trustee since The Fursa Trust was born in 2019.  As we continue with our bold growth plans my focus is on leadership, strategic direction and fundraising.

Spending many holidays in Kenya as a child left a lasting impression and led me down the path of starting The Fursa Trust.  I am now in awe of the impact our committed team have on the lives of so many children in Kenya.   And I’m excited about future opportunities and how much more we can achieve!

Executive Director

Dr Pippa Trench

I became part of Fursa in 2019. I work with the Kenya-based team on the strategy and focus on budgeting and finances. I also support the team with professional development and curriculum development.

I believe deeply in the transformative power of out-of-school programmes to boost confidence, self-esteem and academic and life skills. And I think children growing up in Deep Sea are at a huge disadvantage. However, Fursa is making an enormous difference to their lives and the lives of their families.

Working with the Fursa team is amazing! However, spending time with the young people we work with and their families is the best.

Trustee

Charlotte Hall

I joined Fursa in 2025 as a Trustee, bringing over a decade of fundraising experience in international development charities.

I currently work for a global NGO that provides humanitarian aid and long-term support to people affected by conflict, disaster, and displacement. Previously, I was a fundraiser for a charity that supplied brand-new books to libraries across Africa, where I saw firsthand the life-changing impact of after-school clubs and access to education. This experience reinforced my belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and thrive, which is why Fursa’s mission resonates so deeply with me.

As a Fundraising Trustee, I am excited to help Fursa grow, secure new funding, and expand its impact in Kenya.

Trustee

Marc HERSHESON

I joined Fursa's Board of Trustees in 2019 truly excited at the potential we have to help the kids in Deep Sea. I use my professional experience as an investor in companies to provide a challenging sounding board for our strategy and financial management. I've always had a profound belief in the potential for education to transform lives, especially those that start in difficulty. There's a sort of magic in it and nowhere is this more true than in Deep Sea. The kids there start life in circumstances that few of us in the UK can really imagine. Fursa's after-school program helps the kids gain the skills, resilience and self belief to overcome these circumstances, opening a path to opportunities that otherwise would have been denied to them.
Trustee

Sajad Manzoor

I joined Fursa in 2025 and bring my experience as a finance leader from corporate, Not For Profit and charity sectors.

Fursa enables and empowers young minds from the Deep Sea informal settlement to realise their potential and dreams through education.

I grew up in a deprived area and education enabled me to find a route to self-improvement. That is why I felt immediately and emotionally connected to the mission of the The Fursa Trust.

Volunteer Branding Support

Aalia Sheikh-Nabi

So many children in Kenya don’t have the opportunity to go to school or have support outside of school for various reasons and this has got to change.

I’ve been involved with Fursa from the very beginning and absolutely love being part of such a passionate team. It’s a great feeling to be able to give back a little and play a small part in making dreams a reality.
